Speaking of macher jhol I think our Bengali maacher jhol or fish stew surpasses that of every other cuisine in the world. French, Irish, Portuguese and Jamaican people love their fish stew a tremendous lot too. I will leave the Chinese and Japanese fish stew out of the argument since their’s is extremely different from ours in taste. Even we old school mechho bengalis cannot deal with the kind of fishiness (read anshtey gondho) in the typical Oriental fish stew. Comparing the global fish stew standards, the Irish and Portuguese love too many vegetables in their fish jhol.
